Question:

Is this kind of problem a sign of our times?

Firstly, how can a couple contemplate a baby & then change their minds about being together before that very baby is born??

Secondly, how can the mother, tho' she didn't carry her baby to term, abandon her own flesh & blood??

Thirdly, where does this leave the surrogate mother? Does she just take her money & waltz off?? i don't think so. Surely, knowing that her baby is abandoned by the people who paid her to carry the child, will cause her unimaginable grief.

i find it hard to believe that such complex problems existed during the times of our Grandparents and think selfishness is the root cause.

We are so caught up today in our careers & fulfilling our own goals & dreams that we tend to forget what matters most.

Laws in India regarding surrogacy need to be fixed in place & soon. But this will solve only part of the problem. The cause of the problem will take a much bigger law to solve, i think.

  1. Oh! that's sad, the baby should be with the biological father, especially as he wants her, how many children are out there where neither parents wants the responsibility of their children..

  2. It's like the other Q regarding the poor man who was dead for 2 yrs before anyone noticed isn't it?

It seems to be an overwhelming disregard for the preciousness of human life.

When you think of conception and pregnancy it seems a miracle that anyone ever gets pregnant ever. And yet here is poor innocent baby who will suffer due to a 'lifestyle' choice.

If only every unwanted or abused child could find themselves in the arms of the countless couples who long to rear a child but can't.

Talking of grandparents if I had abandoned my child in the same manner my Nan  would have swung me by my hair, kicked me up the backside and then forced me to care for the baby no matter what my feelings. The child would have come first.

  3. This case certainly highlights the potential problems of surrogacy, particularly when the surrogate mothers are from the poorer parts of the world. The whole thing is open to exploitation. Seems to be tragically unethical to me.

  4. my dad is always telling me that before i have any babies, i must have a career. he doesnt mean i should work. he wants me to fulfil my dreams. and believe me, a baby is not part of my dream, a successful career which i have worked hard and studied hard for is. and if one day i got pregnant, i dont think id feel guilty having an abortion tho i cant say for certain because i have no idea what it feels like.

  5. Consider the 'no win' situation for the child...NO one wants it.

The surrogate may place the child up for adoption at that point, and because babies are in demand, the child would probably be adopted.

On the otherhand, what if the surrogate decides to raise this child? Is she then entitled to child support from the child's biological father? Probably yes, if the intended father's sperm was used to inseminate the surrogate. So there are plenty of problems here, not to mention breach of contract lawsuits. What if egg and sperm of both intended parents were used and the egg was grown in the surrogate? She then could ask for child support from both of the intended parents.

    Interesting and sad isn't it?

  6. Surrogacy is against nature.

Anything against nature always seems to turn to custard.

I feel for babies made this way.

For me, the word unethical means against nature.

Why do humans try & be God?
