  1. YES it  IS compatible

    lets look at the lens

Its a Nikon AF lens not an AF I lens so yes it will work, it will mount just fine, it will meter fine, it will send data back to the camera fine, it will work with nikon speedlights fine. It will NOT autofocus. The fact it does not autofocus does not mean its not compatible. And the fact it does autofocus is  not the end of the world for 5 decades or more people manually focused Nikon and other SLR lenses. You will have to turn the barrel on the lens to focus similar to how you turn the other barrel on the lens to zoom. Thats it !! You'll be surprised how quickly and effortlessly you can do it with very little practice. Even my AF lenses I will at times focus manually

It is not VR so no vibration redduction so you will need a tripod at lower shutter speeds. VR can let you handhold down further than you can without it. Still a good lens

Should the last letter have been a G ? if it is G it has no aperature ring if it is D then it is an AF-D which means it lets the camera know the distance at which the lens is focused. It could be both D and G

And by the way most nikon cameras can use most of the nikon lenses made since the 70's all the way to new lenses. The D60 can use most lenses made since 1986 through present day. Yes with DX and FX lenses you find some of the DX lenses will crop the image on the newer full frame sensor cameras but they still work

  2. What are the top two answers talking about?

Yes they are compatible, they'll fit on your camera perfectly. However, you can't autofocus with this lens. You can still use this lens in the auto mode, and all the other modes, you just can't autofocus. Not being able to autofocus is a little difficult to deal with ( i have a d40 and have to manual focus a lens, and i don't like it to much ) It will fit, however, it doesn't have VR, the images will come back blurry ( because you're not always going to use a shutter speed of 1/300 more when zoomed out )

However, if you're shooting in the light, this would be a nice lens to consider. However the 70-300mm VR lens is more worth while, and it can autofocus on your Camera, which would be more convinient for you aswell.

  3. No, it is not. You would need to get the AF-S 70-300 VR to have an autofocusing lens.

  4. i don't believe it is.

thats the one quirky thing about nikon, they make all their camera lenses compatible to one particular body.
