Is this lock installed correctly?

Shouldn't it be turned sideways? I'm not sure, which is why I ask. Thanks!

It should be installed 'sideways', and it's also mis-applied.

That door opens outward, the chain was designed for doors opening inward.

Yes it should be sideways. With it up like it is , someone could open the door and use a stick to slide the chain off.

The part on the door needs to be turned to run horizontal. Hope this helps.
