Is this lock installed incorrectly?

Shouldn't it be turned sideways? I'm not sure, which is why I ask. Thanks!

No.  Vertical is ok.  Sideways would work, too.

no it's suppose to go horizontal so someone on the outside cannot open the door by  undoing the chain... as is they can just slide it up.. correctly  done when the door is closed and the chain stretched  toward the hinges it should just be able to insert into the hole, therefore if open there is no way for an arm or hand or stick can undo the chain.
