I was on the couch yesterday watching tv with the ceiling fan on, it turns on like lights do- with a switch in the wall. My mom came home and sat down to watch tv with me and I notice the fan is off so I get up and turn it on. I thought it was my mom that had turned it off so I didn't say anything. But then several minutes later I notice that the fan is off again. The switch is down. My mom hadn't gotten up so it couldn't have been her and my dad was upstairs sleeping. I tell my mom this but she shrugs it off, it's nothing. I turn the fan on. Several minutes later again, I notice the fan is off, the switch is down! I scream and get really scared, what the heck? I turn it on again, laughing nervously. Then for some reson I turn the fan off a few minutes later and say, "Well lets see how it shows itself now!" Several minutes later we get up and I pour myself some cereal, my mom gets some milk. I feel chilly and notice the fan is on! The switch is up! What happened here? I'm scared...

  1. Sounds like a defective switch. Your parents aren't worried, so you should not be. They should get it checked out though as electric problems can be dangerous.

  2. Call an electrician.

  3. It is very possible that you are experiencing paranormal activity. Spirits use our electricity to form and this could be why your fan is acting weird. Not trying to frighten you!! But there is nothing to be scared of. If this is the extent of the activity you have nothing to worry about!! Take care....UFSJ Steve

  4. That sounds pretty crazy, I can't think of a natural reason for this. Does the switch move firmly into position? I have never heard of this happening. It could be related to the heat.

It could be paranormal, if so, dont worry. If it starts getting worse, and weird stuff starts happening, then its time to call a priest or something.

  5. You have good reason to be scared--there may be a short in the fan's motor which could result in a fire.  But there is one other possibilty that I can think of --perhaps your fan operates off of more than one switch--this frequently is the case when the fan is in a family room, especially if it is hooked up to a fixture that previously serviced a ceiling light fixture.  I would tell my mom about the problem--it really could turn out to be dangerous, but not for paranormal reasons.

  6. Don't be scared. Switch might be loose or defective to change its position from off to on and from on to off. Get it changed and the ghost will go.

  7. Don't be scared, have your dad look at the switch.

  8. First check the switch.  Use something light like a feather  or a straw to see if the switch moves with alight touch. Compare with a known good switch.  If all seem right set up a video camera in a hidden place and see what you get.  It could be just some one messing with your head.  If you rule out everything else it might be paranormal.

  9. It could be poltergeist activity.  My wife and I have those experiences all the time.  There is nothing to be afraid of.  It is just their way of telling you that they are here.  They mean no harm.

You may try using a audio recorder to see if you pick up anything on it....such as evps.....voices that the recorder picks up that you can not hear with your own ears.

We travel quite a bit investigating reported haunted places and have gathered quite a bit of evidence.  Whether you believe our evidence is up to you.

  10. Sounds like you have a ghost haunting you. Don't be scared, ghosts are not the big white sheet looking things like on cartoons, and don't be scared by the word "haunting". It simply means "to come back as a spirit". Get a psychic in and find out. There are lots of people in your situation, my house is haunted by the former owner, who is friendly. I know who it is because I'm a psychic and I've seen him and heard him many times. (even though I'm psychic and I know who it is, I get scared sometimes, so don't be embarrased about being scared.)

  11. Experiment, switch it off and use tape to hold the switch in the off position and watch !. If it switches to the on position then it`s definitly something to investigate.

  12. I don't think you can rule out leprechauns. They are mischievous like that.

But before you call in the Leprechaun Investigators, I support the idea of calling an electrician to solve your electrical problem. Or just go to Home Depot and replace the switch yourself if you're mechanically inclined. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first.

  13. Think about, it isn't it much more likely to be an electrical short?Try hondamans idea and for gosh sakes, call an Electrician. Not a paranormal investigator.

  14. Either:

    (a) Someone is messing with you, like a little brother, or even your mom or dad.

    (b) It's a screwy switch that doesn't properly hold its position when toggled.

    (c) You and/or your mom have selective memory about turning the fan on and off.

Either way, it is not anything paranormal, and you have nothing to be scared about.

Also, not to sound rude, but don't flatter yourself. Even if ghosts existed, which they don't, I think they would have better things to do than mess around with your fan switch.
