Is this my mucous plug or what? please help?

i'm 38 weeks pregnant &I just went to the bathroom and when i wiped there was a clearish, thick, stringy discharge that I have never seen before. I wanted to see if there was more so I pushed alittle and when I wiped more came out. I also noticed a little brownish tinged wet mark on the paper as well, is this my mucous plug or just discharge, i haven't had it before. please help? i don't care when labor may start i just wanna know if that's what this is also the consistency is like jelly.

I just called my dr about an hour ago, having snotty, brownish discharge, and they said it is my mucus plug, and the coloring is fine. Hope I helped.

It could be a little bit - my mucus plugs looked like the biggest boogers ever, about the size of a wine cork with a dry end.  Gross, but effective for keeping the womb sterile for growing a baby.  Other discharge during pregnancy was simply discharge, at least for me.

It sounds like it might be, although the mucus plug may have a bit of blood in it.

i had the same thing i was told that u get weird discharge through out pregnancy and others told me that i was starting to loose my plug slowly but if ur seeing brownish colored in it like i did i would call ur doc and just ask him so u dont stress about it. there alwasy there for whatever question u have! good luck i have 2 weeks to go also!

Some women lose their mucous plug over a duration of weeks, and its just clear and jelly-like. This type of mucous plug loss usually doesn't indicate labor coming at any particular time...just that it IS coming.

Now, when there's what they call *bloody show* as you're describing with the brown tinge to it, most doctors or midwives will tell you that it means labor is not far off. Days maybe. Yes, if there was bloody show, its your mucous plug. Bloody show varies, with it sometimes being thick with slight bright red blood, sometimes pink, and sometimes brown. Get ready, it sounds like you're pretty close! Good luck!
