Casey? Is this for a boy or girl? I like it but i'm not sure if it's too girly for a boy? What do you think?

Do you know anyone with this name?

Also where does the name originate and is it popular or not?

  1. CASEY  Gender: Masculine & Feminine

    Usage: English

    Pronounced: KAY-see

From an Irish surname which was derived from Ó Cathasaigh meaning "descendant of Cathasaigh". The name Cathasaigh means "vigilant" in Gaelic. It is also given in honor of Casey Jones (1863-1900), a train engineer who sacrificed his life to save his passengers. In his case, Casey was a nickname acquired because he was raised in the town of Cayce, Kentucky.

Even tho the site indicates the name is used both for males and females, for me, this spelling is for a boy. There's a baseball poem called "Casey at the Bat" so I can never think of this spelling for a girl.

"But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out."

  2. Casey I think is a boy's name.  I don't know anyone with this name.  I just know of Casey Casem from the radio.  Personally, I don't care for the name, sorry.

  3. I think Casey is best for a boy. I like it!

It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "alert, watchful"

  15. It could be for either, I know a boy and a girl who both have the name Casey. Origin could be Irish.

  16. I know two people with that name. One's a girl and they other a boy. It's good for both.

  19. its for boys and girls. but i like it better for a girl's name. and yes i know a girl named casey.
