Is this noise normal or not?

I play guitar and I have standard strat. I've been noticing something and its really been bothering me. Say Im on the G string and hit the note on the 5th fret and I go to the 7 fret and hit the next note on the same string it sounds really bad and unclear. I noticed that this was because the 2 strings above vibrate slightly and give the note dissonance that sounds bad and I'm sure that i didn't even touch those strings with either of my hands. I tried a dozen times to make sure it wasn't me. Why does this happen? Is it normal?

  1. Hi lanzo

What needs to be done is to file the fret slightly. What is happening is that it is slightly higher instead of slightly lower which is why you hear that funny sound.

Take it to a Luthier and he will file that particular fret. It will cost you a few dollars and inexpensive. At least, it will be done properly.

  2. They will do this sometimes if the weather changes, or someone attemptes to adjust the neck who doesn't know what they are doing. But I would say your neck needs adjustment.
