Is this normal? ( GIRLS ONLY)?

Ok. So I'm 13 and an only child. I already got my period and all that stuff.. but... my mom doesnt let me shave my legs. I shave my underarms (without her knowing) but she always checks my legs to make sure I havent shaved. I have great legs and now I only wear long pants because of it. My mom is REALLY strict about these things and says I cant shave until Im 15 and cant have a boyfriend until Im 20. What can I do? Is this normal? Tips on convincing my usually very liberal mom?

you have to talk to her, if she tries cutting you off, keep talking, if she tries to ignore make her listen. If she leaves follow her, make her understand your needs.

By the way, she can't make you not have a boyfriend until your 20 because they can't control you until atleast 18

my mom was ike that when i was your age. i got her to bargan with me. like i told her that i wouldnt shave past ht knee and things like that. you have to be willing to give up something that you love but your mom hates. (ex: really darm eye makeup or something liek that).

sit down and talk with her about the whole leg thing and just say "mom guys arent suppossed to shave their legs but girls have to!!"

tell her she's restricting you from wearing some clothes you might want to wear (skirts and dresses) because of the not shaving thing. And that your not a little girl anymore. and throw in people tease you (even if they don't) because of your legs.

My mom was the same way. Tell her your side of the story calmly and be very sweet. She'll she one day that you have the right to shave and she'll let you.

Tell your mom you're embarrassed to wear shorts or skirts, and that's making the summer heat really uncomfortable for you.  Also let her know that shaving your legs does NOT make the hair grow back thicker and darker.  It's commonly believed that, the earlier you start shaving, the thicker and darker your hair will be later in life.  That isn't true.

And you can have a boyfriend when you're 18 because you'll be an adult and your mom can't really tell you what to do.  Ask her if she really wants you to go off to college having never even kissed a boy or been to a real party.  Wouldn't she rather you have these first experiences while you're still living at home?  Wouldn't it be better if she's around to set limits and enforce rules when you first start dating?  

Remind your mom that 18 year old girls who haven't had many life experiences are the most likely to end up drunk, topless and puking in a laundry hamper at some point during the first 2 weeks of college.  They're also the most likely to be taken advantage of just because they don't know how to read people yet.  It's not fair to you to keep you from having some knowledge of the world before you leave the nest.  

I'm not saying go out, have s*x and get drunk--  but 13 is old enough for group dates at public places, school dances and leg shaving.

Dress ugly and don't do your hair or makeup and wear sweats all day around the house and wear baby clothing.

Then she'll be like WTF and you can just say "I'm dressing like a little girl cause you treat me like one....now give me my baby bottle"

That's totally what I'd do cause she'd get sick of it and let you do it.

i think that you need to sit down with your mom and talk

i know you said that she cuts you off

but try starting off the conversation by saying "mom you really need yo listen to me about this before you say anything" or anything like that

that way she will hopefully listen to you and think about you answer before she just says no

and she will most likely think that you are more mature as long as you keep your cool even if she does cut you off

My mom was the same was your age.  You are still young but I can see how it may be a bit 'embarrassing' to have hairy legs.

Come up with a good 'argument' as far as how you do respect your mom's opinion and understand that she feels that you're not ready to but that it is embarrassing to you.  Let her know that you can't go out in public anymore in shorts or skirts because you feel self conscious about it.  Tell her that you know that she feels that you are too young & that some things can wait like s*x and having a boyfriend (cross that bridge when you get there) but that you're shaving your legs for yourself and that you don't like hairy legs.

Don't use the argument that everybody else is doing it because well a lot of times what everybody else is doing isn't right..good luck.

I would show off your legs anyway, then she will have no reason for not letting you shave.

I never shave mine (!) and you really can't tell the difference.

As for no boyfriends til 20, that's mad! I was married at 20!

Once you are 18, she will not have any say in what you do.

My mom didn't let me shave my legs until 8th grade, so it seems normal to me. I started shaving my underarms in 7th grade. Explain that it makes you sooo uncomfortable that you can't even wear shorts. Tell her people at school tease you for it (even if they don't).

until you are eighteen, she can tell you what to do, but as for not having a boyfriend until you are 20, that's bull****. She can't tell you that, if you are 18, you are an adult, and she can no longer control you. Ask your mom if you can do something EXTREME, and then ask her about shaving, show her that your legs need to be shaved.

that is the most insanely ridiculous thing i have EVER heard of! its so stupid! what does it matter whether u shaved ur legs or not?just do it and keep dressing likeu normally do for awhile. tell her you have to change in gym and ppl will make fun of you. play the guilt card

Just do it.  I did when I was your age and my mom was surprised for a minute but then she didn't care.  There are so many more things to worry about for parents than if their daughter's legs are shaved or not.  If she makes a big deal of it or hides the razors just tell her it makes you feel better about yourself and you are the only girl at school who isn't allowed to and it makes you feel self-conscious.

Also, she cannot tell you that you cannot have a bf until you're 20- at 18 you can do whatever you want!

mine didn't want me to shave till 15 sucked so what i did was when i was 13 that i shaved my legs secretly she saw them screamed n since that she didnt say a word again besides u r 13 and a teen it looks dirty when they r not shaved!
