My friend had quadruple bypass surgery more than six months ago, now for the last 5 weeks he has been getting a pain in the chest just to the right of the center of his chest whenever he does anything physically stress full. When he moves from the chair to the couch his heart rate goes up over 100. He is taking a daily nitro but he still gets these pains up to 6 times daily. He has also complained of numbness and tingling up the back of both arms. What can be causing this? He does go to see the doctor in a week.?

  1. After heart surgery, there is a very long recovery time to get back to the way you were before.

It might just be that his body is adjusting to starting to move more again after that traumatic experience to his chest area.

Also, it is very common for people who have had heart surgery to get some inflammation of the rib cage, called Costochondritis.

Seeing how he just had heart surgery only 6 months ago,  I strongly advise you to keep that appointment and see what the doctor thinks.  Make sure you mention Costochondritis if the doctor fails to find anything wrong.  Nitro would not help pain if it was inflammation of the rib cage, either.
