  1. Can you describe what you were feeling exactly? Were you dizzy, disoriented, emotional, shaky, sluggish?

Those are all very normal sensations to feel while emerging from anaesthesia. It is usually due to the drugs you were given during or after surgery, your body's natural response to being traumatized (cut) in surgery, and sometimes your emotional state, which could be a mixture of fear about whether you'll be alright, confusion, and relief that it's all over.

The high is normal. It will wear off, so don't worry about it. After surgery, just "go with the flow" and relax, and let the nurses and doctors take care of you.

  2. It could have been, but it is likely also to have been a pain medication or a combination.

  3. No. This is not an uncommon feeling after surgery.  Most of the time you are given some kind of narcotic to help alleviate any pain from the surgery.  Also it is very common to wake up with feelings of euphoria because of the meds you were given during surgery, usually with a bit of oxygen and sleep it goes away.  In other words you are normal.

  4. It's pretty normal to feel high after waking up from a general anaesthetic.  You have been given many different medicines to keep you asleep, reduce your pain and prevent nausea.  The feeling goes away once the effects of the drugs wear off.

  5. Perfectly normal ... you had left over anaesthesia and any pain relievers making your brain feel really wierd.

People babble a lot in the recovery room. They are usually very happy, sometimes they want to cuss and fight. We never got bothered because it was all normal.
