well I brought home a new guinea pig and my pet cat sabrina sniffed him, licked him in a "ew" kind of way, then I saw her and the guinea pig sitting side by side. I thought that was funny, but what does this mean?

  1. if your cat is an indoor cat she might not know any difference then oh this is another odd creature.  guinea pigs are pretty decent sized.  I used to have a cat that would get our dwarf hamsters out of their cages and carry them around when she was in heat like they were her babies (she also did this with a mini beany baby from mcdonalds).

I have a friend who has a rabbit and a cat and they get to just hang out running around the house together.  the rabbit actually jumps the cat more often then vice versa.

She probably thinks its a relative or something, I would still watch for a while, but its a pretty cool thing to have going on.

  2. dont read into it, your cat is acting like a parent,  i have had cats and rabbits and cats and guinea pigs together, they will get along they cats are cleaning the guinea pig like its a friend or its baby doesnt matter where the cats l*****g him, just watch out for the cats nails, my cat would like to cuddle with them (he would lay behind the piggy) like they are his teddy bears and one time the cat accidently scrached the bunny....over 300 worth of vet bills for my bunny to have surgery, if your gonna let them hang out together i really suggest getting soft paws they are great and the cat wouldnt even know shes wearing them...

  3. Some cats can get along with rodents and birds.  Some cats will eat them.  Don't let them alone together or your guinea pig might end up lunch.  I have seen cats that play nice with other pets that used to be food and have no problem.  When I wanted to get a bird, I asked my vet about this.  She said, yes cats and mice/rats/guineas/birds/etc can get along just fine, but she said you should never leave them alone together.

  4. That's how my cat reacted when we brought home our dwarf bunny.  We brought home kittens a few years later; they were fascinated by the rabbit, but once they got to check him out, the mostly just like to hang out near his cage.  Little Zoey will stick her paw in between the bars of the cage and pet his head.  It's very cute.

(even though rabbits aren't rodents, but that's anoter whole topic)

  5. It means you have a cat that doesn't have the instict to kill rodents. And maybe she just wants a friend. Take pictures. That's too cute.
