Question:

Is this normal for Blu-ray or is it just mine?

When I turn on my blu-ray it takes one or two minutes before it will respond to my remote, even to just open for the disk. Then once you put the disk in it will do nothing for about 30 seconds. Then it will say "loading" for about two minutes before it starts to play. All the functions seem to run in slow motion. Is this normal"

  1. Blu-Ray players are really small computers. The long time to respond -- which is normal -- is mainly due to the system having to go through a "boot" process (like when you start your computer). While the time required varies with the player (PS3s are generally faster than stand-alone players), ALL Blu-ray players are slower than DVD players.

Furthermore, the overhead due to BD+ and other anti-copying mechanisms and BD-java (the basis for the interactive menu of features) slows down response as well even after the player is up and running.

It's a pain, and one of the biggest complaints about Blu-ray.

  2. Yes this is completely normal. I do have a Blu-Ray Player. It is as slow and I know for a fact all of them are like that. Nothing is wrong it just has a long start up time.

  3. They all do that. I just bought a panasonic blu ray player, and the load time is faster than most. My HD DVD player is slow too.
