My 2yr old son lines up his cars into a perfect line and will one by one move them into a new position. He will spend about an hour doing it. Is this normal behaviour for a toddler or is it obsessive??

  1. Yeah, this is normal for kids that age.  Though it can seem a bit OCD from an adult's point of view, it really is not.  Kids that age have very few things that they can control, so they tend to over do it when they can control something.  In his case, it's the cars under his control.  My daughter has a bunch of Little People characters that she likes to line up - she will be 3 in October  :)

  2. LOL- my 2 year old does the same thing. He lines all of his cars up against the wall and will leave them there like they are about to begin a race or something. It is perfectly normal and cute

  3. The only child I have ever seen do this is my best friends son (who is now 11) when he was about the same age he was obsessed with cars he would do the same thing over and over again with his cars and would do it for hours. She eventually found out when he was about 4 that he was autistic. He is borderline, he just has speech, anger and obsessive (video games) problems. But he is exceptional in math, and art. I am not saying that your child has autism, there are many other factors to look into. He could just like cars. I would be happy if my kids were occupied that easily. My kids don't really like toys, they would rather run around all wild and drive me crazy : ).

  4. Its completely normal.  I work with 1 and 2 year olds and a couple of them do the same thing.  One girl (who is 1) will go back and forth from the book shelf to the table and line up all of the little people toys on the table or the carpet.  And then she'll put them all back and then line it up again.  I wouldnt be too worried.

  5. that is too cute. yes its normal. and cute too.

  6. All kids can have their quirks. I have a friend who's son did things like this, and it turned out he was mildly autistic. My son around age 2 or so would line up his Lego's, rather than build with them, and also was fascinated with a deck of cards, and sliding them into another toy he had - both these things could hold his interest for awhile. I worried about autism. Despite being a late talker, my son was fine. The therapists told me, that even though lining things up is an autistic sign, that it doesn't mean a child is autistic - all kids can go through a phase of doing things like that. My son is now 4, and is a wonderful, happy, busy little boy. He still has moments where he loves to line things up - his fascination now is cars too, and parking them. Unless you see other signs of concern, then it probably is just a kid being a kid. At his next appointment tell his Dr. your concerns at least.

  7. yes its normal my little brother use to do the same thing went he was 2 and he got over it before he turn 3

  8. Its completely normal.  My son does the same thing with his trains.

  9. kids often like to wathc the same movei over nad over so for a kid is normal http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  10. It's normal for kids to do this sort of thing, but an hour is a tad excessive. It's probably just a phase, a good way to stop it would probably be to redirect him to something else, like making the cars move along the rug and do different things to get the creative juices going. It will most likely go away with time, not to worry.
