Question:

Is this normal for a teenager?

I'm always online and I'd rather be in my room than hanging with a friend. I don't like to be outside in the sunshine or swimming. All I do is sit in my room and play online and read. I'm perfectly happy with that. Don't get me wrong, I hang with my friends sometimes.

This morning my mom was yelling at me saying to go out with a friend or play outside. I really don't want to.

I feel like I'm the only 16 year old girl who stays inside all summer and chooses to be ani-social. Anyone else like this? :/

I've kinda been like this all my life

  1. it's normal but not heath

  2. I'm totally the same way! or at least i used to be,I think it's just the summer blues .. like,i never used to do anything in the summer except sit around on the computer, and that's it and i was happy. Then i moved to another town, and got a lot of new friends that lived around me and i'm hardly ever on the computer,i'm always hanging out with them. Try to develop a hobby or something you truly love to do instead of be on the PC all the time. It's not healthy, and you'll realize that the life beyond the computer is 10 times more funner!

  3. you're not alone.

for as long as i can remember my mum has insisted i spend half the summer at the beach and the other half out at the movies or bowling with friends. but i found it boring and was perfectly happy to just sit and read a good book.

i'm now nearly 18, and i'm still the same. the key is to go out occasionally and make it clear to your mother that the summe ris your time and you will spend it in a way that you feel comfortable with.

just make sure you don't let yourself miss out: if a freind is organising something, try your best to go, and you might have fun. in any case, i eventually took to going out to the oark and findin a nice spot in the park to read, and most public libraries have internet access now for free, so you may just have to find ways to do all those things out of sight of your mother who probably worries that you're not getting nought vitamin d from the sun.

just reassure her you're not up there plotting to kill anyone.

  4. I'm sure your mom might just be worried that you won't get enough social experience or maybe she thinks you are unhappy.

If you are perfectly fine with it I don't see anything wrong with it.

I'm a 17 year old girl and I personally can't stay in one place or online or watch tv for too long without getting bored out of my mind.

But there are those times where I just like to chill at home in my room. And be to myself.

It's understandable. Teens just like their time to themselves.

Just as long as you are really happy with the way you live your life. Explain this to your mom. Tell her this is your choice and your happy with it. You see no problem with it.

  5. I'm like that too. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only teen like that. =[

  6. No your normal...

16 year olds don't "play" bahahaha

I'd say you shouldddd maybe go out once in a while for health reasons of course.

  7. its normal!

i was and still kinda am the same way, im 18 and i'd much rather be in the a-c on my myspace than be outside sweating.

    lol

    :)

    and i HATE t.v. too!

your normal... different people just enjoy different things.

  8. nope its normal...

id rather beh alone all the time...

but i am NEVER alone ne more...

    blahhhggg

  9. I'm like that when I'm not going to camp or doing stuff. But hanging out on the internet constantly isn't healthy. I'm sort of anti-social too, but I force myself to hangout with my friends. Also, getting a job is a good way to get and meet new people, plus you get paid!

  10. hahaa im also like that but i get out just not with friends..its alittle lonely at times but at least we know we arent the only ones doing it:)

  11. Oh, I am completely like that! I don't know why, but I've always preferred to be in my room online or reading. I, too, hate TV. But that could have stemmed from my 2 sisters' obsession with it. So, maybe it's not "normal", but what is considered normal these days, to me, doesn't seem ideal.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one like that though..I guess those of us like that are few and far between. =]]

  12. i was like that all this summer and last [i was 15 last summer], but i have a baby and cant really stay inside i have to be out doing things. but i was like that

  13. i hate tv too it is boring!i go on the computer all night long like 8 at night until 8 in the morning.my mom says that i will have square eyes.

    i love my computer!

    By the way ima 10

  14. I sometimes feel the exact same way. Yes, it is normal, but a little unhealthy. Even though you are interacting with people on Y!A it is necessary for you to have normal social interaction with peers.

Well, I guess that's what school is for. =) Just enjoy your summer in whatever way that you like.

  15. i used to be, you get reeeely bored after awihe

  16. i am just like u! lol

i just moved here so i have no friends yet.. but still before i moved i was like u

  17. I was like that when i was about 14 and my mum was the same. But by the time i was 16 i was out with my boyfriend a lot and going to parties etc. and i looked back at being 14 and spending all my time on the computer on my own in my room and i regret it because of all the fun id missed out on that i could of been enjoying.  x

  18. I was like that at 16...

and i regret it now, i missed out on so many things, and so many good times i could of had...internet will always be here ur only young once live it up while u can cause u will regret it later

  19. yeah that's normal. but i find that it gets so boring and repetitive after a while, and i run screaming outside to get some sunshine. i think that either way you choose is fine, as long as there is some kind of balance.

  20. I'm only 12, but yeah, I'm like you.  I don't really want friends, and I love my computer.  My mom says my room is like a dungeon, but I don't care.  I don't like sun, I like the dark.  And reading is fun!  So yeah, you're fine.  But make sure you don't spend too much time on the computer, maybe that's what your mom is worried about.

Edit: Hey!  I don't like TV either! I love my computer!

  21. Well, it's normal for you and that's all that matters.  So long as you do get out sometimes, you should be fine.  Don't get into a rut though.

If you find yourself kind of sad and lonely after awhile, you need to change your routine and get outside more.  It may not be comfortable, but it will eventually help.

Don't worry about it too much.

    I'm the same way.

  22. I'm sort of like you. I'd rather be reading books or online reading stories and just relaxing. I do like TV, but hate swimming. I only like going outside when it is manageable like 80 degrees or cooler. I hang out with my friends whenever we are all available, usually we are busy. I'm also 16, don't worry, keep doing what makes you happy, why try and please others? This is you and if they can't accept that then that's their problem.

  23. Well I'm kinda like that too but it's because my parents work a lot.  I know how great the internet can be, but maybe you should find something that you really like to do.  Like I love to jump and do flips on my trampoline, and that keeps me active and I spend a lot of time with my friends on it.  Try finding something like that to do.  Your not anti social, that's when your afraid to walk out of the house because someone might just want to talk to you lol.  Good luck!
