Question:

Is this normal for an oven?

Our integral fan oven died last night so we went out today to buy a replacement. My husband fitted it and followed instructions for leaving it on a high heat for 30 minutes before using it to cook in. After 10 minutes, it had reached temperature but the exterior of the oven door, and the panel above where the controls are, had got excessively hot. I would expect the door to get warm, but not so hot that you cannot even touch it with your hand. We are considering returning it to the shop tomorrow but not sure whether they will accept our reasons for return. Surely this is a safety aspect and not normal for a brand new oven? Does anyone know whether it would be considered normal for the OUTSIDE of the oven to get roasting hot? Thanks in advance.

  2. Ovens sold for home use have strict regulations, including the temperature of the outside to avoid injuries.  Commercial ovens for restaurants etc are not covered by the same regulations.

You should arrange to return the oven.  Either it is faulty or they sold you a commercial model.

  3. I would be tempted to ring the company that made your oven to see what they say? You may have been better off getting them to come out and fit new fan?

  4. You should take it back to wherever you bought it. Does it have o UL (Underwriters' Laboratories label on it or on the box? If they refuse to give you a full refund, tell them you will contact UL and the CPSC (Consumer Products Safety Commission. There might also be an agency in your State government that you can contact if it reaches that point.

It IS a serious safety issue.

  5. I have NEVER had that happen. I would return it. Call them first, if they don't believe you, you can have someone come by. A manager may be willing to do that because of the price.

  6. Where is the vent on the oven. It may be near or above the door.

  7. Not at all normal,The outside should not be  hot,Are you sure all the packaging was removed before switching the oven on?Do not use it again until it has been checked,Call the manufacturers and see what they have to say.
