Question:

Is this normal for cats?

I just got my first cat and shes a little different than other cats, but the one thing that stands out is that she will sit infront of her water bowl for hours at a time and just stare at the water. And if we put an ice cube in the water, she gets very excited and purrs and stares for even longer. She doesnt like to sit in your lap like most cats, and will sometimes get hyper and weird, but is staring at water for hours normal?

  1. some cats are just fascinated by water. my cat lucas will sit at the sink and stare at the dishpan if theres water in it. he also likes to sit on the edge of the bathtub whenever someone is in the shower and he bats at the water. its nothing bad, dont worry.

  2. Yes it is normal. Its just some cats are interested in water more than people lol  but ya it's very normal  :)

  3. I had a cat once that was not much into people. He was a loner and stayed by himself alot. He didn't stare at things though.

  4. i wouldnt get too worried over it

  5. When my cat was younger she would do this. The only difference is that she would do it to the toilet bowl! She would stand on the edge of the seat and stare into the water and swat at it every once in a while. She (still) does it on the edge of the bathtub too whenever there is water in it. She just loves to watch it! I'm glad to know there's another cat out there who likes to watch water....my other cat doesn't do this at all. Now I know my kitty isn't just crazy!

  6. Most likely your cat is infected with being a kitten syndrome!  Silly! Cats like to play... make sure they have lots of safe toys and a scratch post to avoid them getting into things they should not.  Make sure that your house is cat proof... get down to his level (yes lie on the floor) and look at everything he could get into that could be harmful to him or it.  Also, make sure that toilet seats always stay down or bathroom doors stay shut.

Now it is VERY unlikely, but just keep in mind that aqua-phobia (fear of water) is a sign or rabies but it's very very unlikely.  Just make sure that you get him immunized and have check ups regularly.

  7. Well maybe you should try and see if it likes to go swimming. Or maybe she sleeps with her eyes open. Or she could be deep in thought. Well it could be found normal because doesn't everyone go off in thought sometimes, or even just stare.

  8. that is not normal

  9. Easy to solve problem. Put a bowl of water but instead of water pour beer in it. You will need to do this once only and the starring will stop. By the way I'm mot kidding.

  10. yes it is
