Is this normal for eyes?

When I close my left eye and look out of my right eye, every thing has a very slight yellow/orange tint. Conversely, when I close my right eye and look out of my left eye, every thing has a very slight blue tint. I have to be really close to an object to notice it. Is this normal?

  1. Yes, it's totally normal. This used to drive me crazy so I did a bunch of tests with my eyes to figure out what caused the color difference.

Try this out, it's kind of fun. Hold something red in front of one eye, and something blue in front of the other. It doesn't matter if you can focus on them, and it doesn't matter which eye is looking at which color, just so long as you only see one color in each eye. Stare for a few seconds, then look around the room.

Your eyes will have adjusted to the colors they saw, and the room will look the opposite temperature of the color that eye was looking at. So, the eye that was looking at the blue will see very bright, vivid, warm tones - while the eye looking at the red will see darker, cool tones.

Totally normal, but most people don't notice that it even happens.

It's just your eyes adjusting to the colors and light around you - very similar to how everything looks brighter than it is if you've just come out of a dark room. Your eyes try to balance both the Color and the Brightness of the area your in, so when it's dark they let more light in (so you can see better), and when the colors are too vivid, they'll add the opposite color (so you can see sharper).

Usually, no one notices unless they're going from between very bright/dark areas, or areas with very contrasted colors (like blue and red).

  2. Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one. Haha. Well, Idk. I think you get it from wearing those 3-D glasses (for movies) You know how one side of the glasses lens is blue and the other is red. I think it was because of that. Like, looking through it for along time and then your eyes will develop something for it or something. I found a temporary thing that can help your eyes see normal. You just close tight your eyes for like 5 seconds and then open them again. It starts out a little red and then it fades into clear.

  3. dude - you have too much time on your hands (eyes?) lol

seriously, I don't know.  You should ask your eye doc.  Any other issues with vision?

  4. ummm, I don't think so
