Is this normal for fish?

my fish used (it died), to have some sort of reddish colored rust near its fins, was that normal, and mabye why it died?

It was the kind of fish that had the little string thingeis on its gills, kinda like whiskers.

Well this might have been due to the fact that instead of a fish bowl, you were letting it swim in the metal trashcan outside of your house.  Reddish colored rust?  That was the external bleeding of your fish, mixed with the rust from the can.

I'm not sure I saw red eye but not what you described. go to your local library. um search the web. I am sorry your fish died!
