Question:

Is this normal for male dogs?

My 9 month old Pittbull has recently started "hiking" his leg when he urinates. The only problem is, he always falls over when he tries and ends up urinating all over himself! It's so funny to watch because he's so cute! I was just wondering if it is a normal thing for male dogs to lose their balance when they are just starting this or should it be one of those natural things that he should have no problem with?

  1. I would think it would be normal for now but now if he is still doing that in a yr I would be concerned. Hope you take care of the Pitty.

  2. Yeah that's normal it was a year before I could do it without falling over.

  3. It's normal

  4. no your dog might have problems with his leg your should lay him down and streatch his leg form 15-30 sec and/or go to the vet

  5. normal

  6. It's pretty normal for male dogs to take quite awhile, or never, figure out exactly how they're "supposed" to pee.

An early neuter, or a myriad of other things can lead to never lifting, or never quite figuring out how to lift, their leg.

  7. Sounds like my pup!  He just started lifting his leg at about 7 months and at first he kept falling over.  He still sometimes pees on his toes, but he's gotten a LOT better coordinated.  Just give him time; he'll get there.

  8. Sorry, I just fell off my computer chair laughing!!! ^.^

He will learn soon enough. :)

  9. Yes ts normal and funny!!!!

  10. He's just a goofy adolescent at 9 months, and he's getting the hang of a new skill here!  What you describe sounds hilarious!   Unless he shows lameness in a leg at other times, I wouldn't worry about it.  He'll get it.  It'll just take some practice.
