Question:

Is this normal for my turtles?

they are both snappers and ive seen them laying on the bottom of the tank with their eyes closed. i always think they are dead but they get up and act all happy if i poke the glass. are they sleeping or something else? and is it normal? one is a florida snapper and one is an alligator snapper.

  1. Thats normal, and few possibilities.

    1. sleepy.

    2. water temperate under 80 F, they start to hibernate.

    3. It does not the food you feed, and hunger to death.

  3. It sounds like they are sleeping. They may be tired, they may be too cold. However, they are not "hibernating", how ridiculous!

    You should not keep both of these aggressive turtles together. You are asking for trouble!

  4. Perfectly normal. You didn't expect them to get up and dance for you as soon as you walk in, did you? Snappers spend much of their time this way in the wild. Drop some food in if you want to see some action.
