  1. Pretty insane, but sadly, very typical. Many people who promote the AGW theory, just flat out don't like people and that includes themselves. Many don't believe in a God given purpose, therefore they have to create one. Global warming gives many of these types a sense of purpose. They are intoxicated by the very thing they have denied.

  2. It's a very well written article.  The Earth can only handle so many people.  What happens if we have one too many?  If you think there are a lot of starving children now, just wait until real food shortages begin.

  3. I just read that before coming on here. It's extremely ridiculous and scary that some think that way! Who are we supposed to be preserving the planet for if not our children. I thought that was the whole point. I think some people must just hate people and think we should all be dead so the planet can live happily ever after without us.

  4. wow....that's like scary ridiculous...are they pretty much saying that if she has another kid that she and her husband has to die or its going to kill off the environment sooner?? thts so g*y

  5. did you know you could stand every person in the world strait up and it would cover the size of jacksonville fl

  6. How is it ridiculous ? makes perfect sense to me.

We have only as many resources unless we magically find out a way to create more land/food/water etc.

  7. The Earth will be around much longer than human kind will.

The Earth has already experienced several global extinctions and nature & the environment has alway came back.

What does Pablo have to worry about? It's going to happen even if we don't have children.

Personally, I would choose to enjoy life and have children. My anatomy and instinks tell me that I should. Not to listen to them, would be working against thousands of years of evolution.

  8. no it is not.

and yes, i did read it.

population growth and global warming work together to make the future climate more difficult to manage.

at some point, there will be reproductive control all over the world.

that is, if war and/or disease don't do that for us.

unfortunately, before most populations will accept population control, sufficient damage will already have been done that war will be a near certainty due to lack of food and water.

and with nuclear weapons available to nearly any idiot dictator, life will become quite unpleasant.

  9. tell pablo to have another child and then go and kill himself!

maybe the children will grow up to be intelligent guys

  10. The whole "overpopulation" issue is a bit overblown. Granted, too many people creates obvious problems.  But you picked right--the key (or part of it) is in that paragraph: "good access to family planning services." Education and access to family-planning assistance can not only keep the population explosion in check but have a positive impact on poverty."

But there is more to the story.  Here's a few points to think about--and to check out if you want to understand this issue better:

    >the main environmental impact  ISN'T due to the number of people on Earth.  It's due to poor (inefficient) resource use--like clear-cutting old-growth forest instead of tree farming, or overfishing to the point the fish population crashes and the fisherie either goes broke or has to start decimating another species of fish (this is happening on a world-wide scale, BTW).

    >Or--the real biggie--use of fossil fuels.  Contrary to all the hype, however, switching to alternative energy will HELP,not hurt economic growth. Implemented on a large scale, several of these technologies are already cheaper than coal or oil.  Do a little digging and you'll discover  our reliance on fossil fuels is expensive--for YOU, not jsut in the abstract.

    >Growth in world population is slowing.  The best current estimates are that it will reach zPG (Zero Population growth) at around 11 billion later in this century

    >The absolute #1 correlation is the degree to which women are able to opt for education and careers instead of getting married and having babies.  Take a look: every single industrialized nation has low (in some cases, negative) birth rates.  The world population growth is coming entirely from countries where women are still barred from equal education and job opportunities.  Developed countries such as the US that are growing in population are doing so because of immigration or lengthening life spans, not because of excess births over deaths.

The point--we simply don't need any mandated birth restrictions.  Just social equality for women, along with economic development. That takes care of the population "problem." Switch to alternative energy--and enjoy economic growth and lower long-term costs.  And start using some common sense about resource utilization.

This isn't rocket science--mostly its just common sense, once you know the facts.
