the guy that said to drop baseball and am. football before handball: you may be surprised to know that baseball is extremely popular in latin america, second after soccer, and is probably more popular there than in the US (where it is still the national pastime, though american football is thought by many to be the real national sport).   American football is our game. sure, we based it off rugby, and it started out as a different variation of rugby, and we kept tweaking it until we got it where we wanted it, but it's our game. I can't really say anything about (team) handball, because I've never played it, but if it's so popular, why does hardly anyone talk about it?  i wish you d**n europeans would stop assosciating all americans with your trashy stereotypes about us  being arrogant and ignorant because some people are. We like american football, Yahoo is an american company, and something tells me handball would go long before football would be taken off.

HANDBALL referred to here is an Olympic, professional sport with a huge following everywhere outside the English-speaking world. And the best game ever invented.

I'm sick and tired of those Americans on Y! A who seem to think world ends at US borders. I suggest dropping baseball and American football before dropping handball.

Its not used much but its my favourite sport

One-wall or court handball is a traditional GAA sport played in Ireland and is especially popular where I'm from. I'm only a middling decent player myself but some of the lads in our club play in the US world championships

There's also a version called Street Handball played in New York i sh it you not. Its a variant of one-wall handball only with an urban flava (opening of Stranger than Fiction has a clip of this in it) Handball is played throughout the world (its racketball without the rackets or think of squash with a bouncier ball). The two most recent reference points are in American Psycho (Paul Allen has a handball game scheduled) and the Animal Factory where two prisoners play One Wall handball. Willem Dafoe being a closet handball fan and all. There you go. More than you needed to know about handball.

But yeah as a category its useless. I asked a question once and almost no-one knew what I was talking about
