is 700:1 Contrast ratio ok for a 23'' widescreen hd ready tv?

i know the lcd ones are known to not have a sharp picture, seems to be on those bigger ones.

would it still look good in HD say on ps3/blu ray

  1. You want a minimum contrast ratio of 1000:1

    That is the absolute minimum

  4. 700:1 contract is appallingly low, what also matters is the number of colours and brightness and response time of the tV. many LCD sets have figures over 10,000:1 for contrast now.

    this will look washed out no matter what source its used on.

  5. Not really. For really sharp, clear picture it should be 4000:1 or above.  

  6. The contrast ratio is a lot lower than you could expect from a decent LCD television these days.

    It will not give a particularly good picture compared to others.

    for that size you want something with at least 3000:1 contrast ratio
