I needed something for my female to lay in. Someone said peat moss is good, so I went to the store to get some and all they had was peat moss enriched with miracle grow. My questions is , will this have any ill effects on them? In theory I would think it wouldnt because my grandpaw always uses it to grow his vegetables and I eat the tomatoes grown from miracle grow...

  1. Miracle grow would be bad. It's a chemical fertilizer and may poison your gecko.

There is a difference between peat and peat moss.

Peat is just black top-soil dirt (also known as peat-soil or potting-soil).

Peat moss is the same stuff that eco-earth sells in a brick at a marked-up price for the pet trade. It's a type of mulch.

Of the two, peat moss is what you should choose (or eco-earth).

  2. From past experience, anything and I do mean anything will agrivate their skin. I would rather be safe than sorry and go without the miracle grow. I used a drop of soap to clean my gecko's cage and made sure all the soap residue was gone and it still got a rash thing. Be careful!
