Is it OK to feed a rat the outside of a Poptart? Not the fruity part, I mean like the bread stuff on the edge that's pretty much flavorless. My rat likes to eat it, but I was wondering if it was OK to do that?? Thanks! :D

  1. yeah sure. Your rat can eat some of the fruity part to if you want, just make sure it's not to much. Here are some other treats rats are not aloud to eat...because that list is a lot shorter...

    blue cheese:   contains toxic mold

    licorice:   contains a suspected neurotoxin

raw dry beans or peanuts:   contain antinutrients, cause red blood cell clumping (note: the peanuts that you buy in stores are almost always roasted so are okay.... frozen beans from veggie mixes are okay because they've been pre-cooked)

raw sweet potato: contains cyanide-forming compounds

raw red cabbage and brussel sprouts: contain an antinutrient that destroys them in a min.

    raw artichokes: inhibit protein digestion

    green bananas: inhibit starch digestion

green potato skin and eyes:  contain solanine (toxin)

    wild insects: could carry parasites

rhubarb: high levels of oxalates which bind up calcium

raw bulk tofu:  can contain bacteria (packaged tofu is safe)

orange juice: contains d-limonene which can cause kidney cancer in male rats

  2. i think it would be fine because rats can eat anything lol just kidding rats love to eat

  3. It should be ok since it's like wheat or something like that.

  4. Rats by nature are scavengers and basically eat anything they can get. So poptart is not bad for a rat.

  5. I would think it would be fine.

  6. Considering what rats eat in the wild I'm sure it's OK.

  7. It's fine don't worry

  8. you have a rat? ewwww! i like mice as long as they aren't running around the house but not rats! or did you just sort of find him and say hi to him and named him then kept him in your garage like my cousin did with her raccoon roger he eats cat food! i have no idea if yoju can feed a rat that stuff it's probably okay because if you get rats in your house they usually go into everything and bite it once or twice so i think thats okay

  9. Yeah, its fine. People always freak out about these high end, finichy diets for rats, but when it comes down to it, they are rats. These are animals that survive by digging through our dumpsters and garbage cans. These are animals that can pretty much eat anything

  10. yeh i wouldnt see why theres a problem with that :)

  11. Yeah some rats i no eat far worse.

    they eat anything

  12. My God! Are you crazy? Your going to make your rat over weight and get it hooked on junk food like the rest of us in the US. You'll also give your rat high blood pressure and diabetes! You going to measure out it's insulin in a little tiny syringe  and give it shots everyday? If you don't it could go blind and you'll have to get it little sunglasses and be it's leader human so it can get around the house. It could also loose a foot or leg and then you'll have to get a little walker so it can move around. Poor little rattie rat! No be nice to it and give it the remote control and let it watch what it wants to see on the tv for a change.
