Is this outfit (see details) appropriate for sailing?

starting up sailing soon... don't really know much about it.

so... here's the type of outfit i'm thinking of wearing: Soffe shorts (which, if you don't know, is just this brand of cotton shorts that's sold in basically all sports shops), a t-shirt (with an Underarmour long-sleeved shirt underneath on cold days), sneakers, a baseball cap, and i'm bringing a waterproof blazer with me. does it sound okay?

should i wear a bathing suit under my clothes, just in case? and do i have to wear sneakers, or can i wear flip-flops with rubber soles that aren't too slippery? i probably have to wear sneakers. or boat shoes are probably even better.

any advice is appreciated =)

  1. you should acctually do sandles.

something that wont get hurt from the water.

  2. no. youre soffe shorts will get wet, stay wet and since most of them are see thru when theyre wet eveyrone will c ur undies, thats not fun. waterproof blazer, sounds good; hat, perfect, sneakers um well i would say if you want to use closed toe shoes use those watershoes that you find at Target and LandsEnd and LLBean, but sandals are always good, cotton Tshirt same thing will happen to it as your soffe shorts

  3. No, that's not appropriate.  You generally want to be dressed in waterproof slickers.

  4. What type of sailing?

I sail dinghies and have found cotton shorts aren't good.  They get wet and stay wet.

I have been wearing swim trunks and polyester t-shirts, a hat, and plenty of sunblock.  We must wear closed toed shoes.  I am lucky to have a pair of Sperry's from a few years ago.  I think some kind of well draining water shoes would work great too.

If your lucky enough to be on a larger boat where you are just cruising around and stay dry it won't matter as much.
