Is this pakage good?

I have been offered for a position with 36000$ plus about12000$ benefits (medical etc)..is this pakage good fr living in california davis? i mean how much will go in tax and living cost? and what does they mean by benefit ,that money they dont give us in hand or what?

You wont be poor but your not going to be rich rich. You should live a fairly comfortable life.

$36,000 per year is not much considering the cost of living, you'll have about $24,000 after taxes if filing taxes as a single person and a little more if you have dependents.

This would probably be enough to get by on, but it would be close.  A one bedroom apartment is nearly $1,000 per month.  If you have a family multi bedroom rentals start at about $1,500 per month.

You should ask the employer about the benefits.  From your question it sounds like the value of the benefits are worth $12,000.
