  3. I can really recommend this free ebook titled "How to make a living playing poker online". I've learned so much from it, things I haven't found anywhere else.

  4. My buddies and I have a couple of poker games which sound similiar to what you are talking about.  One is named Bingo which is a high-low split game.  This is not a strict poker game in the since that you are trying to make a standard poker hand.  It is basically a point counting game but we losely consider it poker.

In this game, every one is dealt 5 cards (or more depending on the dealer.)  Aces are counted as 1 or 11, face cards are 10, and all of the rest are counted as their face value.

On the first round, the player to the left of the dealer discards (mandatory) a card from his/her hand.  Each player with that same rank in their hand must discard it and all cards of that rank.  There is a round of betting.  On the next round the player to the left of the first discarder must discard a card from his/her hand and everyone  who has that same rank must discard it.  There is another round of betting. This procedes around the table until everyone has had a chance to discard a card.

If someone manages to discard all of his/her cards he/she automatically wins the whole pot.  If no one managed to discard all of his/her cards, the point value of his remaining cards are added up based on the values above.  The player with the most points and the player with the least points split the pot.  Note, since the Aces count as 1 or 11, it is possible to win both and high and low.

  5. That's called 50/50, dumb luck, coin flip.

Poker takes skill.  Try wiki'ing it.

  6. No. There are many different variants to poker, quite probably the most popular one being 'Texas Hold'em'. The objective of the game is to bet chips against your opponents and create the best hand with two cards you are dealt and five cards on the field to help anyone's hand.

The ranks of best hands are as follows:

    Royal Flush- 10, J, Q, K, A all of a single suit

Straight Flush- five cards in a row of the same suit except 10, J, Q, K, A.

Four of a kind- Just that. Four cards of the same denomination.

Full House- Three of a kind plus a pair.

Flush- 5 cards of the same suit in no particular order.

    Straight- 5 cards in a row (for example 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) that aren't of the same suit

Three of a kind- Same as four of a kind except only three of the same denomination.

    Two pair- self-explanatory.

    One pair- self-explanatory.

High card- in the event that no one can make anything out of the cards on the table, the highest card wins, going from Ace down to two.

Although I haven't explained all the rules, I hope this helps you figure out what poker is.

  7. NO.

  8. No.  Poker has nothing to do with adding numbers and based on what you have in your hand.  Poker is based on which cards you have and what type of hand you have (i.e. a straight, a flush, etc.)
