Question:

Is this possible PCOS symptoms, or pregnancy symptoms?

My long-term boyfriend and I haven't been using contraception recently (since August 7th), as we've both been hoping I'd get pregnant. and over the past week or so I've had tender b*****s, cramps, constipation, tiredness, increased urination and mood swings.

The thing is, I rarely have periods so never know if I'm ovulating, or even if I do ovulate. I presumed not having periods meant I had a syndrome such as PCOS which would make me infertile, but I recently spoke to my mother about it and she said she had the same lack of periods as I have now when she was my age (late teens) and then as soon as she did try for a baby she got pregnant with me.

Just because I don't have periods, does that mean I can't get pregnant? And if not, then what else could my symptoms be?

  1. Those symptoms could be pms or ovulation, and possibly pregnancy. I would strongly recommend getting some over the counter ovulation predictor kits. They can help you figure out when and if you're ovulating. You can also buy a fertility monitor, which will help you become familiar with your cycle, and ovulation pattern. Another option would be charting your basal body temp. Look on fertilityfriend.com on for more info on how to do so. I would also recommend talking to your Dr. about this, and explain your cycle to him, and ask him about PCOS, and tell him you're TTC. PCOS does not make you infertile. Women do conceive while having PCOS. Miracles happen everyday. Good luck to you, and here's lots of baby dust for you :)

  2. The best thing for you to do is either get a pregnancy test or go to a gynecologist.  I have PCOS and just like you I can go months without a period however that doesn't mean you can't get pregnant.  You need to go and find out if you have PCOS.  There are medications they can give you to regulate your periods.  And if by chance you are pregnant you need to find that out ASAP so that you can get good prenatal care or make a decision about what you plan on doing.

  3. Hi there.

Well basically i have suffered from PCOS up coming nearly 2 years. I thought that when i found out i had this i wouldnt be able to concieve. I went to my doctors and also found of alot of info regarding PCOS from family/friends who suffer from it. Most people dont know they have it until they are TTC. Go on the pill to regulate your periods it will help them when they are regular go to your doctors and ask him/her to put you on chlomid. First get checked up. Have a blood test. Whatever the outcome good luck! and lots of baby dust your way. Also if you are missing periods it could mean you are not ovulating as periods is  what happens after you ovulate.
