Is this possible scenario?

working on a story for creative writing.

So there is this guy and he wakes up one morning and goes about his normal life, thinking everything is okay until he starts having these hallucinations of him with some woman.

The plot is that he was suffering extreme side effects of his medication Zolpidem which can cause hallucinations, feelings of euphoria, and amnesia. (thats a real medication) so anyway..basically...the medication made him forget certain aspects in his life. Including his lover. Possible?

I guess my question really is how amnesia works. Can you forget just certain things about your life...like certain people...or does it just make you forget a certain period of time?

you might as well make it easier on yourself and blame his visions on schizophrenia. otherwise you'll have to dwell into why he takes Zolpidem. now schizophrenia can really create some hallucinations and make you forget about things in your life.
