Ok so I'm overweight and concidered obese according to the BMI scale. But I have very little bones and I guess just a lot of fat because I don't really look as big as "obese" people do. Ok so anyway at school.. it's so hard to concintrate. I just want to stay home and do school and lose weight then when I'm skinny go back to school. Any suggestions... is this possible? (Both parents work) and i'm 15

  1. don't overweight let you down, you are young, continue going to school and concentrate on your studies, make more friends  at school and try some diet you can work on.

you are cool and I am sure you will stay in school !!!

  2. What state are you in?

There is a program that you have actual teachers all your materials are supplied even a desktop computer! And printer.

You have lessons for each class, and your parents don't have to help they say they do but I do everything myself and I am doing fine my mom and dad both work!

They have other states im in California just post your state and I will give you the link.

    =)

  3. dang girl u need some self esteem... Given I have an 8 pak and Ive never been overweight in my life but I see fatties and I dont think badly about them... most of the time

  4. Hon, while I'm not going to try to influence your decision either way - that's up to you and your parents to decide - I do want to let you know that homeschooling is not a cure-all.

Right now, your job is to be a student - to learn.  If you're having trouble concentrating at school, that may not get any better at home - it may actually get worse.  Something that you need to answer honestly is: without the structure and accountability of school, are you going to be motivated enough to teach yourself?

Homeschooling yourself at 15 is far from impossible, but it does take a very, very motivated student.  You need to be able to set goals for yourself and keep yourself accountable to meeting them, even when you don't necessarily feel like studying.  You need to be willing to challenge yourself, even in subjects you don't like.  If you're not motivated enough to do this (not saying you are or aren't), you could fall pretty far behind.

I would really suggest something like joining a gym or a program like Weight Watchers - something where you will be accountable to someone else.  This will help you in two ways - it will help you have a realistic view of yourself and it will help you lose weight in a healthy way.

If you are having trouble concentrating because of your weight, chances are you have an unrealistic view of yourself.  You may be way more conscious of your weight than anyone else is.  And if you do have an unrealistic view, it can cause you to take risks with your health in order to lose the weight quickly - which is something that can really affect the rest of your life in a lot of ways.

If you want to homeschool because of the academics at your school, or because you don't feel safe there, or because you think an independent learning environment would be much better for you, go for it.  It can be great for a lot of people - it is for my son.  But, if you want to homeschool because of the perception of others - a perception which might not even be there - you may be choosing it for the wrong reasons.

In the end, whatever you choose is up to you and your parents; I just wanted to give you some things to think about, to help you make an informed decision.  :-)

  5. Why dont you just wait till summer break? or naybreaks at all? And you can try lossing weight after school.

  6. I don't know where you girls get this idea that it's going to be oh so much easier to lose weight while at home. You are not the first person to come in here asking about it. Regardless of where you are, losing weight will take the same amount of determination. At home, you'll actually have food around you more often and it's probably easier to even get lazy since nobody's forcing you to change classrooms or walk places.

If it's hard to concentrate at school, then that in itself is a good reason to consider homeschooling. Losing weight is not going to help you concentrate more if you go back to school afterwards.

Your goal of "going back to school when I'm skinny" suggests that your real desire is to hide, that you don't feel good about yourself and you just want to hide from people. That's NOT a good reason to homeschool.

That both of your parents work would also mean that you'd end up being home alone all day long and probably wouldn't get a chance to participate in activities with other homeschoolers. So, not only are you wanting to hide from others, you'd be setting yourself up to do so and wouldn't really develop your self-esteem. You don't have to go to school each day to develop self-esteem, but you do have to do things with other people here and there.

Being home alone and totally responsible for making sure you get your work done and do your exercise and eat responsibly is a lot to ask.

As for your actual question, is it possible? Yes, but if you are wanting to go back to school, best bet would be to find out about independent study or see if there's an online public or charter school where you live. People have tried to do just a year of homeschooling in high school to find out that the school won't accept their homeschooling and they have to officially redo the year; if you go with independent study or an online public/charter school program, you won't have this problem. However, I'd really recommend you look at your motives for this and whether the self-esteem you are looking for and the results you want are going to come out of this plan. Homeschooling in itself isn't going to do anything for you--it's going to depend on what you make of it.

  7. First, accept yourself and stop obsessing on weight. Be healthy. Be active and LOVE yourself. You sound like you want to hide away from the world and only come out when you look the way you think you should. You may want to consider accepting the fact people come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You may be the best you right now! Standards of health and beauty change. Look at Ruben’s nudes. The hot chics of his day are the Jenny Craig crew today. What we call supermodels today would never have turned Titian’s head. Rise above fads and just focus on health and happiness. While I am a fan of homeschool, it is a lifestyle and academic choice, not a diet plan. If as a part of homeschooling you decide to eat healthy meals and get plenty of exercise that is great! But if you prefer public school to begin with and weight is all that is bothering you, I have a much better solution.

First, go buy a new gorgeous outfit that fits your body exactly the way it is. If you wear make up, put it on every morning. Do your hair and take care to think of yourself as a healthy active young girl. If people are teasing you, tell a school official and stop them immediately. Don't starve yourself, but make the healthiest choices you can and enjoy delicious healthy foods. For fun, learn about bento boxes and pack a healthy lunch for school every day. Exchange sedentary activities, like watching TV with activities like walking, dancing, or biking. Think of small changes that you would enjoy everyday. Never overdo anything. Just take joy in each day and make the most of what you have.

  8. I can imagine that it would be hard to concentrate if you're feeling self-concious about the way you look.  I'm sorry you're having trouble.

I think you really need to work on feeling good about yourself exactly as you are.  Make a list of things you like about yourself.  Post a copy on your bathroom mirror.  Keep another copy with you and refer to it whenever you're feeling bad.

I think it's great that you want to improve your health, but you don't have to stay home from school in order to do it. Hold your head up when you go to school, knowing you're just as beautiful and valuable as everyone else.

This is going to be important for you in life.  You have to feel good inside and not worry about what others think.  Your friends at school need to like you for who you are, not just because you went away for awhile and came back smaller.

If you want to lose weight for yourself, set small goals.  Walk 15 minutes every day after school.  Then work your way up to 30, 45, then an hour.  Cut back on soda and sweets, drink water, and eat fruits and vegetables.

There is alot of pressure on girls your age to look a certain way, but you can be beautiful at any shape or size.  Focus on how you feel inside, and work to improve your health.

    Best wishes!
