In our school, there is this event called Garbo, which means garbage duty--where a group of students miss out on classes and instead, the group has to clean up the school in accordance to the preset procedure for the entire day.

One day, it was my turn to do garbo. I am a year 9 (14 year-old) and my group included: me, 2 of my friends, and 2 other girls. We cleaned up the school for the entire day in accordance to the procedure, while having a bit of fun every now and then--which is what everyone obviously does. I doubt anyone expect a group of friends to clean up the school all day without having a bit of joking around....

Anyway, back to the point. Since it was garbo, we brought lots of money and bought lots of packets of Jols, which is basically a box of candy which you can chew on. It was stated on the box that too much consumption of Jols can cause a laxative effect, but we weren't very aware of that until after what happened.

Me and one of my friends ate many Jols during the previous periods, and on period six, the effect had happened and we both had huge stomach aches. We sat down at a bench for around ten minutes, and had informed our group members that we had a stomach ache because of the Jols. However, the procedure said to come meet a yard-duty teacher during that time... which we couldn't due to our pain. After ten minutes we went back to cleaning up the school until we met with our other group members, and went back to meet the yard-duty teacher. The yard-duty teacher asked why we weren't there in the previous meeting, and we told her what happened. She agreed, and since it was the end of the day, we went back to meet the year 9 coordinators to get marked off.

The coordinator asked why we weren't there at the previous meeting, and we told him what happened. He laughed and didn't believe us and instead accused us to have wagged, so he gave us an after school detention, and 2 lunchtime detentions. We couldn't believe this, so we got our group members and the yard-duty teacher to write what happened and gave it to our teacher to prove that we didn't wag.

Then... the teacher just gave us an extra two detentions for trying to prove him wrong. No argument, no discussion, no reason.

What do you think? (Sorry if it was hard to comprehend....)

  1. are you an Aussie? if so just get your folks to write a note saying you won't do the detentions. show him the Jols packet and the letters again or even get a meeting with him and your parents.  or just dont show

If your not an Aussie. I have no idea about other schoold but try what i metioned

  2. well, sometimes stuff happens.

  3. Yes that is power abuse- you didn't wag and just sat out for 10 minutes. You should go to the principal about it or your dean. Of course, you might have presented the case to him wrong. i don't know you so it's hard...

    We have Garbo day too!

  4. Get used to it some people in power are not so nice.

  5. Your teacher sounds like a real wanker.  Also garbo deprives you of a days education.  You should write to your state education minister, and federal too and make a complaint.  you go to school to learn, not to pick up c**p.
