Is this quote still true in today's high tech world?

Iago:

Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,

Is the immediate jewel of their souls.

Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;

'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;

But he that filches from me my good name

Robs me of that which not enriches him,

And makes me poor indeed.

Othello Act 3, scene 3, 155–161

I mean, in today's world, who steals my purse steals my identity and my good name. Agree or disagree and why?

  1. Iago is not saying that he would lightly let someone steal his purse.  However, what he says still holds true.  Once one's reputation is lost, it takes a long time to regain it.  Lost property or money is much more easily replaced.

    Edit:  Try losing everything but finding out who your true friends are.  Then you will find out the worth of the things in your pocket or purse.

  2. They may steal your ID, but never can they steal who you are inside.

  3. agreed.

  4. I think the average purse these days contains at least $1000 worth of techno gadgets, most of which can identify the owner. Add in driver's license and credit cards, and you're in a world of hurt. I think your quote is quite outdated now.

  5. Mam im sorry i dont understand. But thats only because im 10. Sorry anyways here is a star to make it up bye!
