  1. 1. I don't of anyone that is officially in a state of recession. That includes the U.S.

    2. Clearly, some countries are doing better than others. One of the problems we are seeing is inflation due to the additional demand for resources such as oil, feed for animals, minerals, timber, etc. That means that some economies are growing fairly rapidly.

    3. China is one of the countries that has been and still is growing rapidly - too rapidly from the point of view of the Chinese government. But they have been growing primarily because of the European and U.S. markets. They will be growing a little less quickly because the U.S. and European growth rates have dipped, not growing faster.

    4. So if by "gaining" you mean "reducing the gap", then yes - some continue to grow while the leaders don't so the gap shrinks. If you mean "gaining" at the expense of the U.S. and European economies, doing better than they would be doing if the U.S. and European economy were running at full steam, the answer is no.
