I am making my boyfriend a Pork Chop dinner as a thank you for everything he did for me on my birthday this past weekend. Here is a short description of a recipe my coworker had.

Season chops lightly, Cook until they are nice and brown

Take Chops out of pan, pour in a packet of brown gravy with drippings, Slowly pour warm/hot water into the mix until gravy is done.

Mash Potatoes and Veggies for side.

Any suggestions on what to add or do different and what kind of drink should I have? Should I serve the gray on the side or put it on top. How would you serve it? Thank you!

  1. After you make that gravy in the skillet, drop the pork chops back down in the gravy to smother a few minutes Serve the gravy over both the chops and potatoes.

    Iced Tea is always good!

  2. That is a good, basic recipe for the chops.  To dress it up a little, try this.

Cook your chops in olive oil.  Take them out of the pan and add one peeled and sliced apple and a handful of dried cranberries.  Add a little butter and cook the apples until they are soft.  Add 1/3 cup of balsamic vinegar or sweet red wine and scrape all of the goodies from the bottom of the pan.  Continue to stir and cook down until you have about 1/2 of the liquid you started with.  Pour the sauce over your chops and serve.

  3. That sounds good to me but you can add some of your boyfriends favourite foods

Hope i helped have a nice dinner!

  4. Serve gravy on the side in a decoritive bowl so you will beable to control the amount of gravy youd like on your chops. Oh and grill the veggies. And for drink Id do somthing with seltzer to add a bubbly different flavor to such a traditional meal.

Heres a grilled veggie recipie that will perfectly complement the chops and potatoes!

    Grilled Vegetables

1 med. Red or Sweet Onion cut into 4 pieces then separated for additional tenderness microwave Onion pieces 1-2 min.

1 med. Yellow Squash sliced 3/4" thick and cubed

1 med. Zucchini Squash sliced 3/4" thick and cubed

1 med. Green Pepper cut into 1' squares

1 med. Red Pepper cut into 1" squares

12-14 med. fresh Mushrooms for crisp Mushrooms, add 5-6 min. into cooking time

    Olive Oil mixture:

    2 tablespoons Olive Oil

1/4 teaspoon fresh ground Black Pepper

    1/4 teaspoon Salt

    1 Garlic clove crushed

Toss vegetables with Olive Oil mixture and place in oil sprayed grill basket.

Grill with lid closed over med. coals or lava rocks, stir occasionally until vegetables are tender (approx. 10-12 minutes)

    For additional flavor, mix together:

    3 tablespoons softened salted Butter

2 tablespoons fresh finely chopped Oregano or Basil

Toss cooked vegetables into mixture prior to serving.

    4-6 servings

  5. I would serve the gravy on the side to go on the mashed potatoes.  While making the gravy I would add dried thyme (or fresh if you have it) to season the gravy or you could add chopped onions if he likes an onion gravy.

  6. Sounds like a basic fried pork chop dinner recipe. YUM!

Do not pour the gravy on top, let each diner choose how much or how little they want.  It sounds fine, I would broil or grill the chops though but I'm probably a lot older than you and you don't have to worry about the old artieries yet--if I fry I use olive oil but you don't want to make gravy in those drippings

    ;)

You could always bread the chops as well.

Drink whatever is his favorite, if you guys drink wine get a bottle to share.

Other than that, you might want to start with a light green veggie salad

  7. I would get some brown and serve rolls, too, with real butter or mix up some garlic butter or honey butter by mixing up softened butter with either minced garlic OR a teaspoon of honey in a small bowl then serving it on a saucer or in a little dish with a knife.

My grandma used to do pork chops with cream of mushroom soup. She's season them lightly and brown them, just like your coworker, then scrape up the crust and drippings all together and put in cream of mushroom soup and mix that all together with the drippings, then put the chops back in to lightly cover them and serve the excess on the side.

Mashed potatoes -- just a suggestion for how I do them. If you don't like the skins, peel and boil. We like the skins so I boil skin on until falling apart. Drain and put in a big mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper, butter or margarine, a tablespoon or about 1/3 of a rectangle of cream cheese, and a tablespoon or two of sour cream, and a little bit of baking soda -- the latter will make them bright white. Mix all together until soft and fluffy.

Drink should be his favorite soda or beer if applicable. You could get a six pack each of your favorite sodas or a two liter and serve in a nice glass. It should be fine.

You could get a pint of really yummy ice cream for dessert to keep it simple.

    Have fun!
