Question:

Is this recipe ok for a party I am going to later? Is it bad for baby?

I am going to a cookout this evening and trying to find something somewhat healthy to take so I can have something to eat. I don't want to eat hamburgers or hotdogs so let me know what you think..

Finger sandwiches

6 slices thin cut white bread (recommended: Pepperidge Farm Thin White Sandwich Bread)

1 cup soft, spreadable herb cheese (recommended: Alouette)

8 slices prosciutto di Parma

12 leaves fresh arugula or basil (spicy vs. sweet)

2 plum tomatoes, thinly sliced

Salt

2 radishes, thinly sliced

Toothpicks

If you have any recommendations on recipes, I'd love to know.

  1. Well, white bread, the cheese spread, and prosciutto aren't the healthiest. I wouldn't give Prosciutto to a baby. Why not bring some veggie burgers or chicken to grill? That's way healthier than your sandwiches and you're still coking out.  


  2. Yep, it should be fine. Sounds very yummy, now I am hungry! LoL.

    They tell you to be careful of soft cheeses, but the risks are pretty much non-existent. I am pretty sure that women over in europe do not forgo their daily staples of soft cheeses, pasteurized or unpasteurized. Eat up and I will sit here with envy!

  3. only thing I would watch out for is the soft cheese. If it is pasteurized it should be ok but if not leave it out.

  4. The Alouette is fine because it is made in the US and pasturized.  I would watch out for the Prosciutto.  This is a deli meat and it has nitrates in it...the same thing as hot dogs.

  5. as long as the cheese is pasturized andif adding any meat,  the meat (if its cold cuts) needs to be heated to steaming.

  6. I don't see why you couldn't take it, but I'd be a little leary since technically proscuitto is raw ham that has been dry cured.  Cheese, only if pasturized otherwise I wouldn't eat it.

    If you meant "baby" as in baby wants to eat this, definitely NO.


  7. I think that sounds delicious...got some bad news though...lots of soft cheeses aren't allowed while pregnant.  And lunch meats have nitrites that are bad for the baby...

    See below for a site on foods to avoid.   Then just take off what isn't recommended for pregnant women and substitute something that isn't on the list.
