Ok, so I'am about to take my driver's exam and I was wondering if they'll take points off if I turn onto a street where theres oncoming traffic on the far lane and NOT on the inside lane, but i turn onto the inside lane where theres no traffic at all? Do you think theyll take points off because its a risky manuever? Please only answer this question if you are ABSOLUTELY sure because I really dont want to fail this test. Oh and if theres any tips and advice for the exam, I'd appreciate that too.

  1. thro its legal to turn into the nearest lane not always wise if cars are coming it dont matter what lane they are in you could get hit would be best to just wait a second and then make your turn

  2. when you are doing a right hand turn you have to turn onto the outside lane first then merge. i guarntee that. Read your book

  3. you have to turn into the inside lane but you should not do so if there is traffic in the lane next to it because it is risky the traffic coming from the left has the right of way and as long as they are not in an intersection they can change lanes so if you pull out not knowing they are changing lanes the accident is your fault.

  4. Let me get this straight. You are at an intersection and wish to make a right turn. The street you would be turning onto has two lanes of traffic going in the direction you would be turning, towards your right. The furthest of these two lanes has traffic at this time but the nearest lane has none. So you are wondering if it is okay to turn into the nearest lane while there is traffic in the farther lane. Yes, it is. It isn't a risky move because legally the drivers in the farther lane aren't supposed to change lanes while going through an intersection, so the lane you would be turning into would remain clear. If you were struck by a vehicle while turning because they were changing lanes through the intersection, then they would be at fault.

While you are supposed to drive being cautious of other drivers, you are also supposed to drive as though people are going to be following the rules of the road. So if the lane you will be turning into is clear and is supposed to remain clear throughout your turn, then it is legal to turn into it. Making a legal turn won't be counted against you.

  5. In California:

Right hand turns must be executed from the furthest right hand lane and completed into the furthest right hand lane. After you complete the turn ,then you can signal and change into the next lane over if you wish.

In the case of double right hand turn lanes, only the driver located in the furthest right hand turn lane can turn right against a red light after having come to a complete stop. Once again that turn still must be completed in the furthest right hand lane. If a driver is in the second right hand lane from the right and wishes to turn, that driver must wait for the light to turn green. The driver located in the second right hand turn lane from the right must then complete the right hand turn in the second right hand turn lane from the right.

You will see many drivers not conform to these laws and run the risk of creating an accident or at the very least getting a ticket.
