Today i decided to run 4 times around a pretty big track near my house. I'm pretty sure this equaled 1 mile and i ran it in about 17 minutes. I never ever run...so does this running time mean I'm out of shape? I'm kinda skinny, so that's the reason why i never run...

  1. That is a horrible time, I highly doubt it was a mile because if it was that means your speed was between 3.5 and 4mph which isn't even a fast walk. Your time should be a at least 9 minutes a mile

  2. it sounds to me that you're a little bit of a "schlotsky" (look up the meaning of the word), last time I checked my snail had a 15 minute time on a mile.

  3. Yeah...A mile in 17 Minutes!!

    pretty bad...means your outa shape

just run everyday and u will improve and become fitter

  4. 4 times round a big track is probably more than a mile. Prob more like 2.  use http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ and find the place your running, and u can work out how far it is.  once u find the place, switch to sattalites as u can see the actual place and know exactly were u've run. Hope this helps

  5. if you used good technique, you'd probably do it faster. the average mile time is like 8 minutes. i hate to put u down, but im 15 and 225 lbs (fat) and run a mile in about 8 minutes. but then again, i play football.

  6. ya thats only a mile i can walk a mile and still finish before u

  7. if it was a mile (four laps of a track) that was a REALLY bad time. It could mean your body is no conditioned to run distances or you are out of shape.

A in-shape (non-runner) person would run a mile in 10 minutes or less,

A runner who trains would run a mile in 6:30 min. or less.

  8. Depending on your age, yes you are out of shape. A female in good shape that runs a few times a week should be able to do 2 miles in that time. But if you are looking to get in better shape you need to start out slow and easy or else you could end up with shin splints or runners knee. Not fun.

  9. 17 minutes/ mile is not the best, 10 minutes/mile is a rough average for girls. It might be one indicator that you are out of shape, but other factors: injury/poor pacing/heat might also slow down your mile time.

  10. Don't base if your in shape or not on your first time running. Your body just wasn't used to running a mile. The more you run, the more your mile time will go down. I'll say it again your body was not used to running and will continue to quicken, donut listen to the other people.

  11. that is like eight minutes a lap. a sixth grader can run a mile in seven minutes. what you need too  do is run every day. maybe wear ankle weights here and there. eventually it will get easier  to run
