  1. my house was very cold when my son was in his bassanet.

i uses sleepers so his arms/legs/feet were covered.. and used a cover (light flannel type) to cover him from under his arms down...

seemed to work well was scared of him covering himself ut even the one time his clueless dad covered him to his shoulders and he did pull the cover over his head the fabric was light enough to allow him to get air anyways

  2. They didn't know then what we know now. In laws will tell you all kinds of things. Studies show not to use a blanket at all! Use a blanket sleeper. They are great, and nice and warm, or put under clothes on under the sleeper. That being said, It really is up to you, what you think is best for your baby. Every parent knows what is best for there child! GL

  3. Many concerns, all of which we ignored 20 years ago.  Now we are hyper careful.

Babies can not overheat either, which is linked to SIDS, and don't seem to be bothered by being cool, unless they get a URI.

With the bassinet, I hope the infant can sleep on her side, be propped from behind as well, with a rolled up blanket.  Then spread a blanket over the baby, not the bassinet, and use judgement - the blanket can not be so thin that it becomes a noose, or not too heavy and woolly to overheat.  It is fine balance, but should be okay.

I believe and recommend that baby's position is most important.

  4. I wouldn't do that at all.  My worry would be the blanket falling on top of the baby.  I would just put her in sleep sacks and things like that.

  5. Well, I am a bit of a freak when it comes to sleeping, but I wouldn't think the blanket being on the bassinet itself would hurt anything since bassinets generally have netting around the outside of them, and since they have the netting I don't see how the blanket on top of the bassinet would really help with cold.  I would just be worried that the blanket would somehow fall into the bassinet onto the baby's face.  But, like I said, I am a freak when it comes to my baby sleeping!  LOL

  6. How old is the baby? If the baby can roll over or push herself up, then it should be find.  Personally, I covered Celestial up and she was always fine, but I hate to give that kind of advice just in case.  They have those wearable blankets which are rather cozy. You could try co-sleeping.  Generally, new mothers are light sleepers and very in-tune even in sleep, with their baby so co-sleeping is usually safe. It will also keep her warmer because of shared body-heat.  But make sure she can't get her little face buried in a pillow or extra soft mattress or what ever.  I co-slept more than used the bassinett, and found it made me much more comfortable. i was able to sleep better because I worried less about how warm she was!

  7. I think it is ok when I had my son i covered him up in his carseat and he has not suffocated just leave some breathing room so you won't be as worried about her being suffocated.

  8. i wouldnt do it believe me she will be warm enough she wouldnt sleep if she wasnt dont worry to much hun i surpose its ok for me ive had that many kids i could write a book lol

  9. No, this is NOT safe. The blanket could slip and end up covering her face and this could suffocate her.

Dress her in diaper, undershirt, and sleeper, then swaddle her.  Or you could try using a sleep sack, I've heard they are very good.

  10. Instead of covering the whole top with a blanket that you would use,use a receiving blanket or two. They are much more light weight and keep the cold out as well.Make sure to leave a little space opened like a slight crack in the top near her face and head. People cover their children in a carseat so I don't see why not. BUT before you do this you should try putting an extra layer of clothes on baby and putting a hat on her so baby mittens(to keep them from biting their nails) and make sure her little feet have socks on them.

  11. Why don't you give co-sleeping a shot, that way the baby will be next to you and your body heat will keep her warm.  Read up about how do it properly and dispelling of old wives tales at www.kellysmom.com
