It does appear to be computer animated, but you could probably replicate the breathing appearance with rubber bladders and an air pump.  As for making living breathing shoes, I do believe that is currently too complicated for modern science.

Deenie, that appears to be simply artwork (freaky artwork at that). It's computer animated. No, it's not scientifically possible to create a living "shoe creature".

If he did actually create that it would probably some sort of electronic articulator that creates the look of breathing. Although it is possible to create artificial lungs, etc. through stem cells, i highly doubt they would use anything like that in clothing. If it is made it will be totally synthetic.

Is it possible to create a shoe that gives the impression it's a breathing animal?  I suppose so.  The image is pretty unsettling, which is what I am sure the artist was after.
