Is this sentence correct?

"I hope to give presentations at high schools, health clubs and many other public events in order to educate my audience."

I was a little confused because it seems that "in order to educate my audience" incorrectly modifies "public events."

Thank you.

  1. You could simply separate that long prepositional phrase from the list with another comma.  It's far from parallel, so it won't look like just another item in the list.

You could put it at the beginning of the sentence, so that it's closer to the word that it modifies.

Personally, I think that "in order to educate my audience" is rather wordy.  Why not make things simple?

"I hope to give educational presentations at high schools, health clubs and many other public forums."

Oh, yeah.  Since high schools and health clubs aren't events, "other public events" doesn't make much sense.  You're better off with a word like "forums" or "venues" or "locations".  Something that both high schools and health clubs can be examples of.

  2. I hope to give presentations at high schools, health clubs, and many other public events, in order to educate my audience.
