Question:

Is this set of siblings too matchy?

So my dream family is two girls, and two boys. I have names some what picked out. But I'm a bit worried that because two of the names start with the same letter, it would be too matchy. What do you think?

Paul Hartman Russel

Aubrey Jefferson Wilbur

Rose Cordelia Isabeau

Alice Ophélie Ruth

Extra names in case I get more boys than girls, or vice versa:

Charlotte Evangeline Pearl

Franklin Terrence Gene

Hartman, Russel, Jefferson, Wilbur, Terrence, and Gene are family names. They cannot be used as first names.

Is it too matchy that Aubrey and Alice start with A?

  1. Nope, they're definitely not too matchy. Especially since they sound nothing alike. For example, my name is Michala, and my brother's name is Michael, my dad's name is Michael, and my other brother's middle name is Michael. THAT'S too matchy.

  2. Not too matchy.  However, you might want to update the spelling of Alice as its a little dated for a newborn millenium baby.  Maybe change the spelling like - Alyce.  Just an updated twist.

  3. "Is it too matchy that Aubrey and Alice start with A?"

I don't think so...two names that start with the same letter is fine. More than two names starting with the same letter can get kind of silly though.

My siblings names are all J's(3) and a G(1) apart from me being a B(1) name.

I think both Alice and Aubrey are beautiful names and I don't think you should have to choose between them. ;)

    Hope this helps!

    Best wishes!

  4. I don't think so and those names are so beautiful.

  5. not really matchy, maybe slightly......

    i like:

    Paul Hartman Russel

    James Jefferson Wilbur

    Rose Cordelia Isabelle

    Alice Ophélie Rihanne

  6. I have a similar dream, but just one boy and two girls :D

Anyway, my honest opinion.  Overall, I really like your names!  They sound kinda old-fashioned, which I really like.  I think the 2 middle names is a bit too much though.

As for matching, of your names don't.  The one's that do... Cordelia and Ophelie are a bit too matchy, and it's usually a good idea NOT to have siblings with names that begin with the same letter (Aubrey and Alice)

Also, the deal with "Aubrey"... it IS more of a girl's name nowadays (I know, I don't like boy's name used as girl's names either!  Even Ashley seems kinda boyish to me)  One reason for its popularity is not only "Audrey" (via Audrey Hepburn no doubt), but also "Aubrey" by Bread - a HUGE factor, imo.

Anyway, as nice a name it might be, it's so commonly thought of a girls name, and since you don't like boy's names as girl's names --Isabeau is a boy's name too btw -- you may wanna rethink it (I'm having the same problem with the name "Whitney")

EDIT:  Just some food for thought... I really like Cordelia Rose.  It just sounds adorable to me for some reason.  Cordelia isn't used often anymore too.  Ruthann/Ruth Anne/Ruthie are really pretty too! (I'm mean Ruthann or Ruthie as first names...)

  7. Yeah they're too matchy because they're all equally bad.

  8. No I think they all sound quite beautiful, and classic. I also like that they are gender approriate instead of 'trendy'.

My sons are named Jesse, and Jacob - Jesse was after a friend that died in an accident, and Jacob was named after my husband's grandfather who also sadly passed of cancer. The names weren't planned to be "matchy" they are just the ones we loved, and had the most meaning to us. My sister-in-law is naming her kid Jaden though  they are the only 3 grandchildren so now its all hokey, and trendy BLECH.

    Anyway, good names.

  9. No they're all very nice, and go well together without being "matchy." I personally hate matchy names but these all work very well together.

I especially like Aubrey for a boy. You're absolutely right about it's meaning, and I think that male names used for girl's are horrible, so good job with that choice.

I also like Cordelia, Isebeau, Charlotte and Pearl.

And I love (LOVE) Ophelie.  I always though that Ophelie was a very nice name, but I like it even better with the "e."

    Also, really like Gene.

  10. No, it isn't. THey don't sound alike, besides Aubrey is a guy and Alice is a girl....um isn't Aubrey a girl name?

  11. No I don't think so, I didn't notice the two A's at first; they're very different names. And a nice set.

  12. No not at all. I have a 6 month old named Austin and I hope to have a girl next. If I do I plan on naming her Aubrey. I have a friend whos parents married, James and Judy, and they named their 2 kids Jasmin and James. I guess they wanted to keep the "J" in the family.

  13. I don't think that Aubrey and Alice are too matchy. They sound so different that the only thing they have in common is the A. I wouldn't worry about those two.

  14. I think they are four wonderful, well flowing, beautifully chosen names.

And just because two of the sibs share initials doesn't mean they are too matchy!

  15. absolutely not.

Those names along with your other future Kids names are completely not too matchy!

I love all of these names! They are classic, but not too old fashioned

and they are beautiful, but not s****.!

    LOVE your taste!
