Question:

Is this situation weird?

I'm leaving for college next week, and my parents just told me that I'm going to take them out for Mexican food to show how much I appreciate them. They had the restaurant picked out and everything.

It was probably stupid of me, but I told them that if I was going to do something to show my appreciation for them, I would have to pick it out.

They're downstairs arguing about it right now. My mom wants to make me pay for Mexican food anyway, my dad is countering by saying that I'll pick something out. I never actually said I was going to do something, just that I was uncomfortable paying for the dinner. They know I can hear them.

  1. You are leaving for college because YOUR PARENTS gave you the love and support for the past 18 or so years.  Without them you wouldn't be going anywhere!!  Quit being selfish and take your parents out for Mexican food!! Its the least you can do for everything they have done for you!!!!

  2. Yes you certainly are weird and so are you parents

  3. Yeah that seems strange to me.  My Mom made it very clear to me that my brother took them to Ruth Cris steak house after graduating college and they were expecting me to take them some place nice but they didn't have the time nor the place picked out.

While I don't agree with how your parents addressed the situations (it's rude to say when and where).  There's nothing wrong with you showing them some appreciation.

  4. wow you guys are creepers

  5. Wow thats a new one! All parents want their kids to appreciate them, but to force it, thats weird.
