Question:

Is this snowboard too short for me?

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. I'm a girl and have been snowboarding for about 2 years now. I'm still learning a bit, but I wouldn't call myself a beginner. I'm 5'7" and weigh between 125-130lbs.

I was looking into getting a new board that is a 146, but I'm wondering if that is too short for me - my current board is a 149. I've read that shorter boards are good for parks and longer boards are good for all-mountain cruising, but I'm not into doing tricks or anything, just kind of riding down the mountain. I mainly go to Big Bear, CA, so I'm wondering if the 146 would be alright for the conditions there (never any powder when I go). My 149 rides pretty well, but I'm wondering if the 146 will be unstable if I go too fast or if it will be easier for me to turn on.

Any ideas? Thank you ahead of time!

  1. I think it's probably short because I'm 5'1", 112 lbs and I ride a 147...

but the formula to live by if you aren't near the computer is usually:

your height (inches) x 2.54 x 0.9= Suggested Board Length

    hope this helps :o)

  2. I'm about 5'6 and ride a 146.  Sure, it's a little short but it's not huge.  For you 3cm from the 149 to 146 isn't going to make a huge difference.  It will be a bit easier to turn and probably won't be quite as fast as your current one (because of surface area) but it's not a huge jump so I don't think you'll notice it all too much.

That being said if you're getting a deal on the 146 go for it, otherwise search a little further and try something in the 152 range for some more stability.

  3. its a little short for the normal but its your choice

the shorter the board is for you, the more control you have

and the longer the board is for you, the faster you go

and by control, that means like jumping, carving and stuff like that
