Question:

Is this software deal fair?

I need to purchase Final Cut Pro for my new Mac (which I haven't purchased yet) since I am a film student and a video editor.

My fellow student has offered to split Final Cut Pro Studio software with me since she is an Apple employee and can get a discount. I think the software is $1400 normal, but I will be paying $650 and she will give me a copy of the software for my Mac. Is this a fair deal? Do I have to worry about not owning the original software? I'm not concerned about having the manual since I'll have it on PDF and we're both in the same Video Editing class. I do trust her, as she is also helping me get a better discount on the purchase of my Mac.

Does this sound like a fair deal? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

  1. hum i wouldnt do it with this chic because there is another way. you can get a student licensed software that is normally cheaper.

  2. It's a nice offer, but it is completely illegal I'm afraid.

Quite apart from the fact that when you install it it will ask for a password which will have already been used, and might not activate correctly.

I can't condone it, but paying $650 for it seems like a lot if you don't actually own the software, but a pirate copy.

Also, you risk getting banned from this forum if you ask people to approve of criminal activity.

  3. Fair to you, yes.  Fair to Apple, no.  Legal, no.  could your "fellow student" lose both his job and his freedom?  Yes.  Is that chance (and your losing a huge law suit) worth the $750?  Only you can answer that.  Willie Sutton thought the reward was worth the risk.  So did Saddam Hussein.

  4. As others have pointed out, this is a violation of the EULA and it may not activate on two computers.

Since you're a student, check with your school and see if they offer student discounts on software.  While you may not be able to get Final Cut (but then again, you may), Adobe often allows schools to sell software to students at a huge discount.  You may be able to get a deal on Premiere.

  5. I dont think paying $650 for this software is a good deal. You can get licenced software for much lower price.

    Try some of these -

    Ulead® VideoStudio® 11.5 Plus

Pinnacle Studio Video Editing Software and many more.
