Is this some kind of joke on UPS' part?

I ordered my college books online, and today I got what you could call a package. It has the right stickers on it and everything. But it is just a large square of cardboard. That is it. What should I do?

Sounds less like a UPS problem and more like one with the retailer. Did you go through one of those sites that hooks you up with private sellers who have the book you need? If so, either they messed up or more likely scammed you.  Hopefully you used a credit (not a debit) card to buy these so you can dispute the charges and get your money back.

UPS didn't do it - the party you purchased the books from did it.  You need to do whatever you can do to get your money back.
