Question:

Is this something to worry about?

I was just walking across the yard, holding my 1 year old sideways (top of her back laying on one arm, legs on the other, lying down) when I twisted my ankle. I didn't fall or drop her, but the way we kind of "bounced" made her head drop back kind of fast. It didn't go back forward fast like it would with whiplash. She whined for about half a second, then didn't seem to care at all. Should this worry me or is this first time mother ultra-paranoia?

  1. At a year old, if this is the worst jolt she gets she's been lucky.  I actually fell holding my 3 or 4 month old with his head about shoulder level. It was raining and slippery when we were going into the WIC office. I landed hard and his forehead got bumped. I was sitting in a puddle, crying and terrified I'd hurt my baby. Nobody came out to check on us and nobody walking stopped. It was several minutes before I could get up too. My baby was fine other than a red mark. It sounds like your daughter was fussing because you disturbed her not because she was hurt.

    Don't worry Mom!

  2. It probably scarred her more than anything but just keep an eye out for any unusual behavior.  Babies are pretty resilient, it takes a little more than a small jar to really hurt them.

  3. I wouldnt worry if I were you.

Its amazing how much beating these little ones can take.

I have a 7 month old boy, and one night I heard him cry like H@€& from the bedroom. The little b*****d had crawled over from his bed into ours and fell out onto the floor.

He cried for a min or two... but that was all.

I spoke to my dad the next day, and told him all about it.

All he said was that if I was gonna worry about things like that all the time I would go insane. All you can do is to take as good care of your baby as you can.

  4. She was probably more scared then anything. My ex was an abuser and dropped my baby her 2nd day home from NICU at 6months and at 7months. I took her to the ER every time cause I'm super paranoid and she was ok every time. I know it is a very scary experience for you but it will be ok and it's ok to be ultra-paranoid momma. Best wishes!!!

  5. I think she is fine. Just watch her. Make sure her eyes are the same size / don't look different. If they do, you might want to have her checked by the pediatrician.

If she seems normal to you, she's fine

  6. I think she's fine.  If she was a newborn, then I would worry.

  7. I'm sure she's fine. She just got scared.

I remember I fell when I was carrying my son a few years ago. He was sleeping in my arms and I slipped on the edge of the front porch. It's funny. He didn't even wake up and I cut my knee through my pants (my pants were fine though...strange). That's a mother's reaction for you! :)
