I thought that racism was when somebody thinks they are better than another because of their genetic make up, no?

So, how is this racist? Do the Spanish really believe that they are better than the Chinese because of their genetic make up? I thought that the picture was taken in admiration of the Chinese, no? What do you think?

  1. EDIT.. i have a mouth full for this lol

this year, i do not, by ANY means WHAT SO EVER support china, or the olympics. china has told everyone who is setting up shop or vending.. or selling ANYTHING that they may NOT sell to blacks, mongolians, and iraqis. now china wants to be offended by what spain may have done (i havent read alot of the article) EVILs' A BiiiiTCH! and its just coming back on them. they got what they had coming.

EVEN THO the picture was racialy insensitive, i dont REALLY see a problem with it!

  2. they are not being disrespectful, the just took this picture as a media pic to say that their old sponsor, who was a former olympic torch bearer, and was chinese, was signing them on for 4 more years

  3. It's not racist but can be insulting. (To mock another race for a stereotypical facial feature can be offensive to many of that race.)

It was done in good fun, I suspect. Nonetheless, it clearly offended many Chinese people and most people (even kids) know that it's not very nice to make fun of others.

  4. It's not racist. It's just a joke. Everyone, no matter what your genetic make up is, knows that Asians are known for having a more "slant" eye than those of other countries. Some would say that European women have more "round" and "bulbous" eyes. It's just your genetic make-up. Since the Olympic games are in China, which is Asian, which is known for a more "slant" eye, they were simply making a joke in this picture. It wasn't meant to offend anyone. Some would see it as disrespectful to the Olympic games but it's all based on political correctness. I give the bird to the whole "political correctness" and say f*ck off with the racist stuff. Take a joke people.

  5. I do not know the story behind it. I think it was in poor poor taste for sure. I would need to know more to decide if it is racism or not. Bad taste. Definitely

  6. What does that picture have to do with Chinese people?

  7. I think the picture was done in poor taste by the advertising company. But we can't be looking at everything through RACIST eyeglasses.

  8. I don't know what they were thinking, because I don't live in Spanish culture. My first impression upon seeing the photo, though, was NOT that they were trying to be disrespectful to the Chinese. I agree with your interpretation. To me, the photo says "We're going to Beijing!" and is no different than if they were all posed wearing Mickey Mouse ears before going to Disneyland.
