Is this speaker and amplifier setup alright?

I'm using the Amp6-Basic amplifier at http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-378&vReviewShow=1&vReviewRand=6706722#reviews with one per channel.

Is this setup fine or could it be improved upon? The amplifier I am using will not change so I'm looking for suggestions regarding the speaker configuration. Thanks

  1. Yes it could be improved upon. But if you're not willing to change your amp then there will never be much of an improvement.

But I'm sure whatever you play will be reasonably audible. To get more sound out of the same amount of wattage you'll be looking for speakers with a higher sensitivity. If I'm reading correctly that the SPL of those speakers is 84.2db then you could probably do better in terms for volume output, seeing as they're already going to be underpowered. I would believe about 92db is average, but you can find better.

Sound output is ultimately equal to power output. So don't let a small amp hold you back and waste your time, energy or money. That is, if what you're looking for is more. Also don't let SPL/sensitivity be the deciding factor in the speakers/woofers you buy. It's not a measure of quality by any means.
